Manatees Collect 5-4 Win Over Hawks
|
At Hawks Field, the Matlacha Manatees edged the Laredo Hawks, 5-4, in 10 innings. Matlacha catcher Casimiro Girou, who jolted 1 home run, was a key contributor. Jeffrey White finished the game for Matlacha and earned his 8th save. Matlacha, at 20-24, holds down 8th place in the Menard's A.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Bernie Ray came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Laredo pitcher Cisco Pérez, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Matlacha on top, 5-4.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Ray said.
