Torch Score Late to Upend Vibes, 6-3
|
The Rocky Mountain Vibes got a superb performance from pitcher Andrew Phipps, but the Mancelona Torch still won the game, 6-3. Phipps threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball. Jesús Solís earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 2-2. The save went to Knud Sterner, his 13th this season.
Coral Springs, Florida-born Rick Robertson came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Torch trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Mancelona on top.
In postgame comments to the Mancelona Times, Robertson said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The win makes Mancelona 22-30.
