Walleye Score Late, Clip Hawks, 4-3
|
The Walla Walla Walleye and Laredo Hawks played an entertaining game for Walleye Tank patrons.
The Laredo Hawks got a superb performance from pitcher Chip Beatty, but the Walla Walla Walleye still won the game, 4-3. Beatty threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball. Leonardo Flores earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record is now 3-1.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Derek Zoolander came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Laredo pitcher Pancho Rocha, he hit a 2-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Walla Walla on top, 4-3.
"It's not about individual awards," Zoolander told a Walla Walla Daily reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
With the win, Walla Walla upped its record to 29-25.
