The Caldwell Chiefs got a magnificent performance from pitcher Howard Clark, who muffled the Niagara Falls offense en route to a tight, 2-1 Chiefs win at Pipers Ballpark. With the win, the Chiefs improved to 28-35.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Chiefs had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when shortstop Ville Lahtela hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Fjodor Ishemgujin and made the score 2-0, Chiefs. Lahtela went 2 for 3 with 2 singles.

"Howard never lets off the gas," said Caldwell manager Jorge Agramunt. "Good, bad, or ugly, he never gives in."
