The Laredo Hawks took Belleville pitcher Martin Roach's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Belleville Field. The final score had Laredo getting past the Bulls, 4-2. Roach went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 8. Laredo reliever Reginald Helms picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Jesse Clark was saddled with the loss. The loss makes Belleville 37-36.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the ninth, with the game tied, Michael Smith was at the plate when Laredo scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Hawks to go in front, 3-2.
Smith told a local reporter: "My job is to go out and play as hard as I can."
