Alaskan took on Matlacha in front of a lively crowd.
The Alaskan Bush Pilots handed the Matlacha Manatees a sound defeat, 11-0, at Fuller Park. Roberto Valentín, who is tied for 6th in the 3A in stolen bases with 10, was a main contributor to the win. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for Alaskan. Neil O'Keefe, the winner, is now 5-4. He struck out 3 and walked 4 over 6.2 innings, while allowing no runs on 5 hits.
Alaskan used a well-timed hit by Ernie Jamieson to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Bush Pilots ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
Matlacha manager Markus Richardson called the blowout loss "ugly."
Alaskan is now 46-28, while Matlacha is 42-32.
