River Rats Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Chiefs, 6-1

Pipers Ballpark was the site for M3L Single A action featuring the Caldwell Chiefs and Columbia River Rats.
The Columbia River Rats rode a solid performance from 22-year-old starting pitcher Juan Hernández to a win, beating the Caldwell Chiefs, 6-1, at Pipers Ballpark. Columbia has won 3 straight, while Caldwell has lost 3 in a row.
Columbia used the clutch hitting of Curt Strickland to snag the win. The pinch hitter drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the River Rats ahead, 6-1. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a crucial one.
"This is a very good team," said Hernández. "We have the chance to do something special."
