Columbia pitcher Haden Manning had a large part in his team subduing the Mancelona Torch, 4-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The Menard's A-leading River Rats are 52-29.

Columbia got a lift in the bottom of the fourth from second baseman Kenny Peterson, who hit a fastball to left-center for a run-scoring double. His 13th double of the season put the River Rats up, 1-0.

Peterson said the win provided a "big morale boost" for the team. "There's a good feeling in the clubhouse right now."
