The Laredo Hawks picked up a win at Pipers Ballpark, downing the Caldwell Chiefs, 6-3, in 10 innings. On the mound for Laredo was right-hander Chip Beatty, who played a pivotal role in the win. With the victory, the Hawks upped their record to 50-31.
The most important at-bat for Laredo came in the top of the tenth inning, when right fielder I-tsing Yang stroked a 1-0 cutter to center for a 2-run single, putting Laredo up, 5-3.
"Sometimes winning takes more than 27 outs," said Hawks manager José Gato.
