Piranhas Score Late to Nip Lakers, 6-5
|
Behind a solid performance from right fielder Max Hoban, the Panama City Piranhas defeated the Echo Park Lakers, 6-5. Hoban was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Piranhas. Min Der, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The loss puts Echo Park at 1-1.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 26-year old center fielder Eddie Jones had a chance to be the hero. Echo Park pitcher Phil Murphy had other ideas. But with two outs, Jones drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Piranhas had themselves a dramatic win.
After the game, Panama City manager Brian Talamante applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.
