Coeur Best Mockingbirds in Pitching Duel
|
The timely hitting of Chia-ch'ing Chen helped the St. Louis Coeur down the Memphis Mockingbirds, 2-1. Chen was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Coeur. Justin Brammer got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 0. Steve Thomas earned the save for St. Louis, his 1st.
In the bottom of the third, Chen had a 2-run home run for St. Louis. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Coeur on top, 2-0.
"Very pleased with the effort on our side," said Chen.
The Coeur, now 2-0, have played some good baseball in the early going.
