River Rats Hand Pontiac 5-1 Loss
|
Melvin Riggle never let Pontiac get something going. The Columbia left-hander commanded his cutter in pitching the River Rats to a 5-1 win. Riggle, the winner, moves to 3-3. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up no walks. Today's win puts Columbia at 56-31, while Pontiac falls to 42-45.
Fred Stevens was vital to the Columbia win. He was 1 for 4. In the bottom of the fourth with two out, Stevens hit a run-scoring single. It made the score 1-0, in favor of the River Rats.
"We're playing like we're capable of," said Columbia manager Bayram Tanaoglu.
