Airmen Score Late to Beat Bulls, 4-3
|
Belleville got a big-time effort from pitcher Ed Baker, but it wasn't enough to keep the Alameda Airmen from winning the game, 4-3. Baker threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs for the losing team. The first-place Airmen have a record of 58-31.
In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and the game tied, 3-3, 22-year old third baseman Tony Howard won it for Alameda. With the bases loaded, Howard hit a 2-2 sinker from Lou Carlson for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 4-3 win.
"It's not about individual awards," Howard told a Alameda Chronicle reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
