River Rats Topple Generals, 9-2, as Rush Shines
|
The exploits of first baseman Rickey Rush, who is tied for 8th in the 3A in home runs with 14, helped the Columbia River Rats defeat the Washington Generals, 9-2. Rush went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Scott Hall was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 1 run on 6 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. The first-place River Rats, at 59-34, now lead their division by 3½ games.
With Columbia leading 4-1 in the top of the sixth, Rush hit a curveball from Martti Vatanen for a 3-run home run. It was his 14th home run of the season and put the River Rats ahead, 7-1.
"We were firing on all cylinders," said River Rats manager Bayram Tanaoglu.
