Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Torch
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Mancelona Torch and the Matlacha Manatees, Will Stephens was the X factor. The Mancelona left-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Stephens, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Jong-beom So got credit for the save for Mancelona. It was his 2nd of the year.
Mancelona used the clutch hitting of Bob Ryan to snag the win. The right fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Torch ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"Will pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said Mancelona manager Kevin Hancock.
The win makes Mancelona 43-50.
