The Laredo Hawks and Caldwell Chiefs provided some drama for the home crowd.
In a low-scoring contest between the Caldwell Chiefs and the Laredo Hawks, 22-year old right-handed pitcher Carlos Pereira proved to be the difference. The Caldwell right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Chiefs win. Pereira picked up the win for Caldwell, going 8 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 8 hits. He now sports a record of 7-8. Evan Collins picked up his 4th save of the season.
Mauro Gonzáles had a clutch at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for the Chiefs. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Caldwell trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run single.
Caldwell manager Jorge Agramunt praised his team's "businesslike approach."
After today's action, Caldwell sits at 45-50, while Laredo falls to 56-39.
