Generals Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel
|
Washington turned a fine outing from starter Rod Pierce into a victory over the Mancelona Torch at Washington Park. The final score was 1-0. Pierce, now 5-6, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing no runs. The Generals go to 36-59 with the win.
The Torch had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Generals going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old right fielder Denver Harrison came to the plate. Harrison hit a solo home run on a 0-1 changeup from Mancelona hurler Marvin Johnson. It was Harrison's 2nd home run of the year.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Washington manager Kyu-cheol Kye said.
