Gilberto Malfeito, who finished 2nd in the SL in ERA with 2.55 in 2059, had a strong outing for the Las Vegas Flamingos against the Ft. Worth Cattlemen at The Strip. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 3-1 win. Malfeito, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. The win puts Las Vegas at 6-1.
The Flamingos had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 3-1, Las Vegas, with one out. Ft. Worth, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. Mitch Swing dug in at the plate, but on a 1-2 sinker, he struck out.
