The Pontiac Godfathers put one in the win column with an opening day 3-2 triumph over the South Beach Blaze. The crowd at Pontiac Copperdome watched Pete Scott put on a fine performance.

The Godfathers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Arturo Martínez. For the game, Martínez went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Pontiac a 3-2 lead.

"Every play was important. Every out was important," said Godfathers manager John Moss.
