Hobeaus Squeeze By Newmarket, 7-6
|
Reginald Parker impressed in the 7-6 Smoky Mountain win over Newmarket. Parker went 2 for 3 with a triple, a double, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to Mario García in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Joe Dunn took the loss. Albert Longoria got credit for the save for Smoky Mountain. It was his 2nd of the year.
Had Jesús López not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, López hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Hobeaus.
"They had a good approach," Newmarket skipper Clay Myers said of the opposition. "Hats off to them."
The Hobeaus, now 2-0, have hit the ground running this season.
