Eugene third baseman Scott Simpson contributed significantly to his team's 4-2 win over the Chicago Tula. Simpson went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Vandals. Denis Morris snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Ray Berard suffered the loss. Picking up the save was 23-year old right-handed pitcher Edgar Liriano.

Had Simpson not come through in the top of the ninth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Simpson hit a 2-run home run. The Vandals took the lead, 4-2, and never looked back.

"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Simpson told the Eugene Observer.

Eugene is now 2-1.
