The Philadelphia Liberty U-24 picked up a win at The Shell, dropping the Huntington Hermit Crabs, 4-3. Víctor Rodríguez, who is rated as the 82nd best prospect by BNN, was the difference-maker. Martín Machado notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. Jacob Hewitt recorded his 2nd save for Philadelphia.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Mark McCartney came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Huntington pitcher Christian Sandoval, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia on top, 4-3.
"When Víctor is on, he can really move the ball around," said Philadelphia manager Rio Bavin.
The loss drops Huntington to 2-5.
