Blue Demons Lose to Piranhas, 3-1
|
The Panama City Piranhas earned a close win over the Mexico City Blue Demons, thanks in part to Clemenz Lawrence. The Panama City left-hander, who finished 4th in the SL in ERA with 2.72 last year, played a key role in the 3-1 victory. Lawrence yielded 1 run over 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 2-2. Losses have been rare for the Blue Demons, who are now 10-3.
Panama City right fielder Max Hoban contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 11th hit of the season and put the Piranhas ahead, 2-0.
"Clemenz -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Piranhas manager Brian Talamante. "He was the key to us winning."
