Vandals Rally to Win
|
Starting pitcher Sidney van Campen gave the Eugene Vandals a rock-solid effort. The Willemstad, Curaçao native helped his team defeat the Cut Off Crawdads, 3-1, at Crawdads Field. van Campen, now 3-0, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Picking up the save was Denis Morris, his 3rd.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Victor Haynes? The 20-year old first baseman Haynes stroked a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Eugene up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 3, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We took home the win," said van Campen. "What's not to like?"
Eugene is now 9-5.
