Pandas Come Back Late to Top Liberty, 4-2
|
The Philadelphia Liberty got a superb performance from pitcher Bobby Johnson, but the Montana Pandas still won the game, 4-2. Johnson threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball. Cornell Rogers earned the win for Montana. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 2-0. Denny Gaston earned the save for Montana, his 1st.
Montana won the game in part because of Louis Bletsoe. The designated hitter ripped a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pandas ahead, 4-2. For the game, Bletsoe had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"Bottom line," said Philadelphia skipper Geoff Matt, "we didn't play well enough to win."
Philadelphia now is 8-5.
