Eugene turned a fine outing from starter Curt Case into a victory over the Alaskan Bush Pilots at The Riot Zone. The final score was 2-1 in 10 innings. The winner in relief was Miguel Ortíz. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The Bush Pilots drop to 6-9.
The Vandals relied on designated hitter Yuan Chou for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the tenth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.
"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Milton Mathews, the Eugene skipper.
