The Eugene Vandals had to overcome a fine effort from Cut Off pitcher Brandon Whitney to win, 4-3, at Crawdads Field. Whitney went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Cut Off, now 4-12, continues its tough start.

Eugene used the timely hitting of Mike McVeigh to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Vandals on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said McVeigh. "And not try to do too much."
