Zamboca Slugs 2 Home Runs, Rogues Beat Jets, 6-2
|
Getting offensive support from Jorge Zamboca, the Newmarket Rogues topped the Kennesaw Jets, 6-2. Zamboca went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, a double, and a walk, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice for the Rogues. The winning pitcher was 22-year old left-handed pitcher Joan Martel. He tossed 102 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 12 hits. Luis Rosário recorded the save for Newmarket, his 4th of the season.
With Newmarket leading 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Zamboca hit a fastball from Pedro Báez for a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Rogues ahead, 3-0.
"We had a nice day," said Newmarket skipper Clay Myers.
Newmarket, now 7-12, is off to a slow start.
