Commodores Win Squeaker, 5-4, Over Liberty U-24
|
The Put-In-Bay Commodores cut down the Philadelphia Liberty U-24 by the score of 5-4, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder John Wallace. Wallace went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Commodores. Vicente Fernández was called on to finish, recording his 4th save. Put-In-Bay, at 9-11, occupies 7th place in the Premier A.
Wallace contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Put-In-Bay in the top of the third. With his team trailing 2-1, Wallace took a fastball from Víctor Rodríguez and stroked the double to right-center. His 7th double of the season allowed the Commodores to leap in front, 3-2.
"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Wallace told the Put-In-Bay Gazette.
