Walleye Come Up Short at Grim, 2-1
|
Grim pitcher Norman Ayres had a large part in his team subduing the Walla Walla Walleye, 2-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. In 7.1 innings, Ayres surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Jeff Forrest earned the save for Grim, his 7th of the year.
Ramón Romero, who is tied for 5th in the PA in runs scored with 12, came through for Grim with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. The right fielder went 2 for 3 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 1 run batted in.
"Tough loss," said Walla Walla manager Calvin Beck. "But we'll rebound from it."
The Reapers are now 9-11.
