The Philadelphia Liberty rode a solid performance from 31-year-old starting pitcher Bruce Viera to a win, beating the Mexico City Blue Demons, 1-0, at Liberty Park. In 7 innings, Viera surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Mexico City falls to 10-6.

Had Jafar bin Numair not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, bin Numair hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Liberty.

"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said bin Numair.
