Vandals Deal Blaze 6-2 Defeat

The Eugene Vandals rode a solid performance from 23-year-old starting pitcher Byron Combs to a win, beating the South Beach Blaze, 6-2, at The Ballpark on the Beach. Combs got the win, improving to 2-2. He gave up 7 hits and walked 4 over 8 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Eugene has a record of 14-17, placing them 8th in the Premier A.
Eugene used the timely hitting of Scott Simpson to capture the win. The third baseman socked a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Vandals ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Combs.
