Blaze Topple Vandals with Late Rally

The home crowd had a good time watching the Eugene Vandals and South Beach Blaze get after it.
The South Beach Blaze used the hitting of second baseman Berend Davids to subdue the Eugene Vandals, 5-3. For the game, Davids was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winning pitcher was 24-year old right-handed pitcher Stan Bouwman. He tossed 93 pitches over 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Dustin West came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Eugene pitcher Pedro Garza, he hit a 1-2 splitter for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting South Beach on top, 5-3.
"We're all about heart and hustle on this team. That's what wins ballgames," West told the South Beach Daily.
The second-place Blaze now have a record of 19-13.
