Vandals Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Eugene Vandals faced a tough opponent in Pontiac pitcher Sal Cross, but found a way to pull out the victory at The Riot Zone by a final score of 2-1 in 11 innings. Cross went 9.2 innings and allowed 1 run. The win was credited to 21-year old right-handed pitcher Jack Albert in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Jesse Yates took the loss. The Vandals are now 11-28, while the Godfathers fall to 16-23.
The Vandals got a clutch hit from right fielder Armando Andrade. In the bottom of the 11th, he hit a run-scoring single to center, to win the game for the Vandals.
"To become 'battle-tested,'" said Andrade, "you need to compete in this kind of contest."
