Newmarket Keeps Trending in Wrong Direction
|
The Put-In-Bay Commodores withstood a fine game by Newmarket second baseman Dee Reynolds at Put-In-Bay Ballpark, to upend the Rogues, 4-2. Reynolds was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. Picking up the win was Pedro Gil. He went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. The left--hander struck out 1 and walked 0. Vicente Fernández closed it out for Put-In-Bay, earning his 7th save.
Put-In-Bay shortstop Arhippa Koskela contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a splitter to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 27th hit of the season and put the Commodores ahead, 3-2.
"We've got to get out of this funk," said Newmarket manager Clay Myers.
Now 9-31, Newmarket has dropped 11 games in a row.
