Starting pitcher Steve Stewart gave the Pontiac Godfathers a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Cut Off Crawdads, 3-1, at Pontiac Copperdome. Stewart yielded 1 run over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 9. His record improves to 4-4. The Godfathers go to 17-24, putting them 9th in the Premier A.

Steve Owens had a big 2-run home run for the Godfathers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Pontiac trailing 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a curveball from 21-year old left-handed pitcher Carlos Casas and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Godfathers on top, 2-1.

"Steve pitched his heart out," said Pontiac manager Luis García.
