Eugene took on Newmarket in front of a lively crowd.
Eugene shortstop Santiago Vargas made his presence felt in the 5-2 Vandals triumph over the Newmarket Rogues. Vargas was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Jeff Rodríguez picked up the save, his 11th.
Jordan Sercombe drove in one run for Eugene. The 23-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the second. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Juan Cruz. It was his 12th RBI of the season.
"We did a lot of things right," said Sercombe.
Eugene currently is in 7th place in the Premier A at 25-28.
