The Eugene Vandals had to overcome a fine effort from Pontiac pitcher Adam Smith to win, 3-1, in 10 innings at Pontiac Copperdome. Smith went 8 innings and allowed 1 run. The Vandals are now 25-32.
Jason Cholmondoley came through with a big-time hit for Eugene. The third baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to give his team the lead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"It's a satisfying feeling, to win like we did," said Cholmondoley.
