Hicksville Stymied by Fort Knox, 2-0

Fans of the Fort Knox Centennial who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Fort Knox win over the visiting Hicksville Hounds, 2-0. Cordell Dawson started for the home team against Gilberto Cruz. Gilberto Cruz earned accolades for his performance. The winner was Al McCormick in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Gilberto Cruz took the loss. Jerry Pate earned the save, his 1st, for the Centennial.
The Hounds had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Centennial going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old center fielder Siu-chung Chin came to the plate. Chin hit a 2-run home run on a 0-1 splitter from Hicksville hurler Gilberto Cruz. It was Chin's 1st home run of the year.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Chin told the Fort Knox Daily News.
