Lake Erie got a terrific performance from pitcher Andrew Haney, but it wasn't enough to beat the South Beach Blaze. South Beach won the Arryns Ballpark contest, 2-1. Haney threw 8.2 innings of 7-hit ball for the losing team. Chad Morris, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 3.1 innings. The save went to Joe Simpson, his 3rd this season.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Manuel Méndez? The South Beach third baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Blaze on top, 2-0. For the game, Méndez had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"We're in some kind of groove right now," said Méndez.
The second-place Blaze have won 8 straight.
