New Orleans Offense Jammed Up by Rainbow Mermaids
The New Orleans Voodoo were defeated, 3-1, by the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids at Atlantica, even though Juan Castillo pitched well for New Orleans. Northern Virginia reliever Carlos Alaniz was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Juan Castillo. Quinton Barnard, who finished 5th in the PL in saves with 21 last year, nailed down the save.

One pivotal at-bat came with two out in the top of the fifth. With runners on 1st and 2nd and New Orleans trailing 2-0, Carlos Alaniz needed to bear down against Jorge Valdés. Alaniz won the battle, as Valdés grounded out and the Rainbow Mermaids went on to win.

The loss puts New Orleans at 7-6.
