The Greenville 84s defeated the Pittsburgh Kingfishers, 7-1, in United States Silver League action at Pittsburgh Grounds. Nikolai Volkoff pulled his weight. The 15-year veteran was 4 for 4 with a triple and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Hubert Johnson finished to wrap up his 2nd save. The win takes Greenville to 11-10.
Greenville used the clutch hitting of Zhong-yan Zhang to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to give the 84s the lead, 3-1. For the game, Zhang had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"If we keep hitting the ball well, the wins will pile up," said Greenville skipper John Bosma.
