The Beaumont Crossbeaus picked up a win at The Target, dropping the Crowley Cajuns, 2-1. Juan Velásquez, who is rated as the 34th best prospect by BNN, was the difference-maker. Velásquez yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 1-1. Earl DeGraw earned save number 2 this season.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with the game tied, Mark Page was at the plate when Beaumont scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Crossbeaus to go in front, 2-1.
"Thought I threw pretty well and overall I felt good," said Velásquez.
Now 4-7, the Cajuns have gotten off to a poor start.
