Chicago got a terrific performance from pitcher José Tapia, but it wasn't enough to beat the South Beach Blaze. South Beach won the Ramblers Ballpark contest, 2-1. Tapia threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. John Sanders claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. His record stands at 5-0. Manny Sexton earned his 19th save, after closing out the game.
South Beach used the timely hitting of David Acevedo to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Blaze on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Chicago manager Don Pokorski, "let me know."
The Premier A-leading Blaze have a record of 49-28.
