Though he had a stellar game, Elijah Smalls could not prevent his team, the Put-In-Bay Commodores, from losing, 7-3, to the Delmarva Gallos. Smalls was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times. Mario Pérez, the winner, is now 2-7. He struck out 3 and walked 3 over 6 innings, while allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. Roger de Gooyer was called on to finish, recording his 15th save.
Delmarva used the timely hitting of Reginald Voskuil to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Gallos on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Delmarva manager Félix Martínez.
Delmarva, now 31-46, holds down 9th place in the Premier A.
