Crossbeaus Score Late to Win, 3-1
|
Beaumont and Hicksville played a hard-fought contest.
In a low-scoring tilt between the Beaumont Crossbeaus and the Hicksville Hounds, Juan Velásquez, who is rated as the 36th best prospect by BNN, was the difference-maker. The Beaumont left-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Velásquez picked up the win for Beaumont, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 2-1. Earl DeGraw closed the door for Beaumont, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
Beaumont used the timely hitting of José Sánchez to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Crossbeaus on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Winning is hard sometimes," said Crossbeaus manager José Ortega. "This one was nice to get."
The Crossbeaus raised their record to 5-10.
