SOUTH BEACH BLAZE AT KENNESAW JETS

Townes van Zandt did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Kennesaw Jets from losing the game, 8-6, to the South Beach Blaze in 10 innings at Jets Stadium. van Zandt was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 3 times. South Beach reliever Mark Moss picked up the win, upping his record to 1-3. Bill Hayes absorbed the loss. Robert Martin was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 3 save opportunities.

South Beach used a timely hit from Nick Burke to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Blaze ahead, 7-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Blaze manager Jorge Silva.

The win puts South Beach at 45-37 this season.
