|
Despite a great performance by Eugene third baseman Mike McVeigh, the Newmarket Rogues defeated the Vandals by the score of 8-6 at The Riot Zone. McVeigh was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Juan Torres, the winning pitcher, improved to 4-4. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 3. The Rogues, at 38-46, sit in 8th place in the Premier A.
The Rogues got a lift from shortstop Fred Stevens, who in the top of the third stroked a 2-2 cutter to right for a 2-run single. It was his 32nd hit of the season and put the Rogues ahead, 6-0.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Newmarket skipper Clay Myers.
