Eugene Vandals starter Byron Combs turned in a top-notch performance against the Huntington Hermit Crabs at The Riot Zone. The result was a win for the Vandals, 3-2. The winning pitcher was Combs, now 4-5. He tossed 8 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 2. Picking up the save was 22-year old right-handed pitcher Edgar Liriano.

Scott Simpson dealt the Hermit Crabs a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Eugene leading 2-1, Simpson hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single.

"Byron's a gamer," said Eugene manager Milton Mathews. "Glad he's on our side."
