Liberty Spill Bullets, 5-1
|
Al Ivey, who finished 4th in the SL in strikeouts with 127 last year, imposed his will on the Bullets from the get-go. Relying mainly on his fastball, the left-hander spearheaded the 5-1 Philadelphia triumph. Ivey picked up the win for Philadelphia, going 5.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits. He now sports a record of 6-0. The Liberty, at 16-8, sit in first place in the Silver League.
In the top of the fourth, Philadelphia second baseman Clint Campbell had a run-producing at-bat. Facing Baltimore hurler Ed Perkins, Campbell hit a sacrifice fly. That made the score 3-1, Philadelphia. For the day, Campbell drew 1 walk in 4 plate appearances.
"I was just trying to execute one pitch at a time," said Ivey.
