Thunder Down Rocketeers, 4-3
|
Victor Lagers was superb against Seattle. The left-hander, who finished 3rd in the PL in ERA with 2.83 last year, had a fastball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Thunder victory. The score was 4-3. Lagers, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 10 and giving up no walks. The win gives Toronto a record of 6-8.
Steven Dean had a big 2-run double for the Thunder in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Toronto leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Bruce Hawkins, who finished 5th in the PL in wins with 9 in 2059, and swatted a double to center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunder ahead, 3-0.
"The clubhouse can get insufferable after we lose, so I'm glad we pulled this one out today," Dean told the Toronto Herald.
